Deutsch: Buchen wurde um 1280 von den Herren von Dürn zur Stadt erhoben. 1296 zunächst an den Erzbischof von Mainz verpfändet, gelangte die Stadt 1309 ganz unter mainzische Herrschaft, die bis 1802 dauerte. Das erste Stadtsiegel ist aus mainzischer Zeit überliefert (ältester Abdruck 1322) und zeigt bereits im Siegelrund die Buche als „redendes" Bild für den Ortsnamen, beheftet mit dem Wappenschild des Stadtherrn. Zum Wappen umgestaltet erscheint das Siegelbild erstmals im Kirchengewölbe (1504). Zeichnung und Tingierung von Siegelbild und Wappen variierten im Laufe der Zeit. Nach der Neubildung der Stadt durch Eingemeindung und Zusammenschluss von 14 Gemeinden wurde das Wappen -gestaltet nach dem ältesten Siegelbeleg - zusammen mit der Flagge vom Landratsamt am 9. Juni 1989 neu verliehen. |
