| Object history |
Deutsch: Walldürn wurde 1291 von Ruprecht II. von Dürn an die Grafen von Wertheim verkauft. Der dabei erstmals als Stadt bezeichnete Ort gelangte 1293 an die Erzbischöfe von Mainz und blieb mainzisch bis zum Anfall an Baden 1802/03. Das Wappen ist nach dem ersten, seit 1419 belegten, aber älteren Siegel gestaltet und dürfte auf den vielleicht von „Turm" abzuleitenden Ortsnamen (1423 „Waldtdürn") oder auf die ehemalige Burg anspielen. Das Mainzer Rad wurde im 19. Jahrhundert auch durch den badischen Schrägbalken ersetzt. Nach langer Unklarheit über Zeichnung und Tingierung wurde das Wappen 1960 festgelegt (Kenntnisnahme des Innenministeriums 25. November 1960). Über die Flagge entschied der Bürgerausschuss am 29. Mai 1926. |
