[[Louis XIV of France]] had ''Ultima Ratio Regum'' ("last argument of kings") cast on the cannons of his armies. In 1742, [[Frederick the Great]] ordered that all cannons of the [[Prussian Army]] be inscribed with the inscription ''Ultima Ratio Regis''—the king’s last resort.
